1. SEO is the most effective marketing strategy
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing your content so it is easily discovered by search engines like Google. SEO can help you build your online presence and reach a new audience. SEO can be time-consuming and hard to learn but it is also the most effective marketing strategy for small businesses. Many startups first spend most of their time and money on product development. Unfortunately, $3 million is a huge amount of money. You might be thinking, “yeah I’m not going to spend $3 million for marketing, what is the point?” The goal of marketing for startups is to identify what your customers aren’t concerned about so that they can prioritize your product development. This process, known as market research, is years of hard work. It’s also about understanding your business and identifying niche audiences.

When you’re creating descriptions, ads, and marketing copy, try to think about what your audience would be thinking before they read it. According to Brian Clark,
“strategic descriptions borrow the language and structures from the informational and people-oriented domain in order to communicate directly and effectively to people with specific (and often very different) problems in mind.”
The key here is the “specific problem in mind.” The information you learn from your audience will change your thinking.
2. The best SEO strategies to attract customers
To attract customers, think about your potential customers and what they’re looking for. What will make you stand out from the crowd? 
It’s helpful to plan your product events weeks (if not months) out. You don’t want to push your product launch until it’s too late, after all. Don’t be afraid to get creative (I’ve done it, you can too). Partnering with industry experts has been a great way to get in front of early adopters. For a subscription service, implementing a split-test landing page is a great way to start getting your product in front of users post-launch. This way, you’re collecting feedback for your product—a critical feedback loop that can inform future product design. 
So, what can you do now to get those customers? Some of the key strategies that conversion rate experts use with their products are interviews, surveys, technical contest visits, and in-person events. Before you think about these tactics, it's important to actually ask your potential customers. Get in front of them and don’t give up. Lastly, optimizing your product’s reviews means that you’re feeding the algorithm to gain more visibility. Why do it? Reviews bring visibility to your product's reputation and the questions your potential customers express that can help you accelerate product development. 
Trust has always been a part of the mind game, but trusting users has never been more important. To start getting visitors and customers to place trust in your product, you should create a trust-building campaign that includes backtesting of your offer and branding (the product image will have a big impact on your website).


3. Why SEO is so powerful in marketing
There are many reasons why SEO is becoming more and more popular these days. One of the most significant reasons is the fact that SEO is free, and it can help your business generate more traffic and profit. The other important reason is the fact that SEO is a long term strategy, so it will help your business in the long term. Unsurprisingly, many people are still unaware of the huge impact that SEO has on the marketing world. A lot of marketers are still focused on traditional (non-SEO optimized) strategies which don’t produce good results. Unless you have an expert on your team, it’s hard to implement effective tactics that use SEO effectively. There are many sources in the marketing world that provide SEO content, and while I’m not going to go into depth about SEO, it’s great information and should be a priority for any marketing team.

If you can create a great, useful, and original piece of content, then Google will recognise it and rank it highly. 
SEO has a dreadful record when it comes to ranking pages.  Back in 2007, I created an infographic that looked at the internet’s most complicated sites. I looked at the Help Hub for Stack Overflow and highlighted the fact that the website was definitely more complicated than it needed to be. When it came to optimising the website I didn’t really know what I was doing, so I decided to hire help. My first port of call was to look for developers; I think I found a developer, but paid him a paltry sum for the work he was to do. I suppose I didn’t realise how important website maintenance is. It’s certainly worth hiring a developer if you’re a startup.
